I just picked up a 4860 after my old Netgate APU couldn't keep up with my new Cox Gigablast. I'm able to get about 700mbps via iperf.he.net and I'm thinking the bottleneck is not my hardware. Most of my stuff is wireless so I haven't been able to do much more testing than what the iperf package in pfsense can provide, though I'm sure I would see nearly wire speed throughput.
Not a rumor :) the pfSense project is funded with appliance sales, support subscriptions and Gold subscriptions. Netgate is the company behind the pfSense project. All pfSense developers work at Netgate.
